The great thing about weddings in a rural venue is the effect the natural surroundings have on your marriage celebrations. The commitment that you and your beloved are making to one another is truly lovely. In fact, two people pledging themselves to each other is one of the most beautiful things in the world. Exchanging those sacred vows surrounded by the gorgeousness of nature only makes that public commitment that much more enchanting. The best that Mother Nature has to offer cannot help but augment the beauty of your marriage celebrations.
Having your wedding in a rural setting has the added bonus of giving you some unforgettable pictures of you and your intended. Like many a Northern Virginia wedding photographer, we love it when our clients hold their marriage celebrations outdoors. The region’s picturesque views and scenic backdrops make taking magical wedding photos and couples portraits a piece of cake! You are certain to get unforgettable images of every part of your wedding day -- the kind you and your future spouse will treasure forever.
In most parts of the country, the main downsides to having a rural wedding are the logistical challenges it presents. Many rural venues are located far from the closest big city. That means they are not near many of the amenities found in urban areas. For example, these ceremony and reception sites are frequently a long drive from the airports at which a couple’s out-of-town wedding guests arrive. Similarly, it can be hard to find hotel options nearby if the couple has invited more family and friends than their rural wedding venue can accommodate.
Fortunately for you, rural wedding venues in the DC metro area do not have these issues. The region has a lot of great rural wedding venues that are an easy drive from the Nation’s Capital. Northern Virginia’s wine country, for instance, is filled with beautiful wedding venues in a lovely rural setting. The state’s wine-producing region is dotted with dozens of charming vineyards at which you can tie the knot and celebrate your nuptials in the rolling green foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. These locations combine the elegance and modernity of the upscale venues found in the city with the rustic ambiance and natural beauty of a barn or farm. And of course, they give you and your wedding guests the possibility of enjoying some delicious Virginia wines as you toast your nuptials!
The wineries of Northern Virginia also make great locations for your engagement portrait session. The rows of grapevines and the gentle hills obviously make lovely backdrops for unforgettable images. And just like a vineyard wedding, you and your spouse-to-be usually have the option of making a day of it and spending a few hours doing a wine tasting after your Northern Virginia wedding photographers have put their cameras down.
We took this particular engagement photograph at the Quattro Goombas Winery in Aldie, Virginia. This lovely vineyard aims to bring a bit of the spirit of Italy to Northern Virginia and to celebrate friendship (the name roughly translates as “four friends” in Italian). The grounds of Quattro Goombas were a perfect place to take couples portraits like the one featured here. The yard behind the wine tasting house quickly gives way to a gentle green hill leading to a lovely little pond. Everywhere we took this lovely future bride and groom, we found beautiful nooks in which to pose them. Whether beneath the branches of a tree in full spring bloom or tucked beside a rustic shed, every spot framed them beautifully and made them look as much in love on film as they were in real life.
