If you hire us to take your engagement and wedding pictures for you, we hope that it means that you are confident that we can make you look stunning in the final images. We pledge to all of our wedding clients that we will do whatever it takes to make sure they look fantastic in their photography. That said, as we get closer to your nuptials or engagement photo shoot, it is pretty normal if you get a little nervous about how the pictures are going to turn out. Many of the folks that we have photographed over the years have confessed to being worried about how they are going to look on film.
As destination DC wedding photographers, we completely understand your concerns, of course! The photos that we are going to deliver to you after your engagement shoot or marriage celebrations are some of the most valuable that you will possess over the course of your lives. Like any other couple, you will want them to look as magical as your felt on the day they you got engaged or exchanged your vows.
One of the best ways to deal with your anxiety about the photos is to reach out to your Washington, DC, wedding photographer. We are always happy to help you and your future spouse feel more comfortable about being in front of our cameras. We want to make your couples portraits look like they belong in the pages of a bridal magazine and that requires you being completely at ease during the entire process.
With that in mind, we give you some small pieces of advice regarding your preparations. For example, we might suggest wearing something that makes you look and feel your best. We would also discourage you from trying out any new haircuts/hairstyles right before your photo session. But aside from that, we would just recommend that you show up and let us do what we do best. Making you look great on film is our job, not yours. It is our responsibility to put you in a setting, in a pose and in a lighting scenario that both tells your love story and makes you look beautiful/handsome.
An important part of our process on the day of your wedding or engagement session is helping you relax as we are taking your photos. In our experience, the couples who have the easiest time in their portrait sessions are the ones that feel most comfortable. You obviously know your future spouse well. The two of you have, over time, developed a complementary body language. When you feel relaxed, that body language emerges and you tend to require very little posing direction from your DC wedding photographers. You are so in sync mentally and emotionally at that moment that you slip quite easily into your own little world. You forget that you are in front of a camera or that there are people photographing you. That makes the photos of you look so natural, unforced, spontaneous and beautiful.
As you might have guessed by now, this couple reached that point during their engagement session. They were a bit older than many of our wedding and engagement clients (this was the second marriage for the groom). They had already been together for many years before deciding to get engaged. They knew each other inside and out, and were completely comfortable in one another’s presence.
Even though they were both born and raised in Hannover, Germany, we chose venues for their destination engagement shoot that were not necessarily specific to their hometown. We wanted all of the focus to be on them and their love story, so we took them to locations that would not distract from the connection between the two of them.
The photo shoot started in a field of beautiful yellow flowers, where we even used our DJI Mavic Pro drone to get some aerial images of the couple kissing between the blooms. Afterwards, we took pictures of them sitting on some logs we found in a clearing just off the main road. That is where we captured this particular image. What we especially love about the picture is the sense of ease that you can see between the future husband and wife. They are 100% comfortable with each other in a way that only two people who are really in love can be.
