It seems to us that one of the best things about being a bride is getting to be the center of attention on your wedding day. From the moment you arrive at the Washington, DC area venue where you will be getting ready, you get to feel like a celebrity, like the star of the show. You literally have a team of people at your disposal, and their sole mission is to make you look your best when you walk down the aisle. You have someone to style your hair and someone to do your makeup, not to mention your wedding photographers, who are your personal paparazzi documenting everything you do on the day you get married!
As a bride, you also have a lot of people around you who want to make things run smoothly for you on your wedding day. Your wedding planner, for example, is there to keep everything on track and make sure that you (and everybody else) is where they need to be when they need to be there. We strongly believe that your wedding photographer should also do more than just take beautiful pictures of you. Those who you entrust to document your nuptials photographically should also provide you with a first-class customer service experience, getting you water when you are thirsty, making you laugh when you are stressed and generally helping make your day easier and more enjoyable.
The same goes for your bridesmaids. Whether they are your sisters, cousins or close friends, the most important women in your life play a crucial role on your wedding day. They stand by your side to offer support and act as witnesses when you officially exchange vows with the love of your life, but they also help you when you are getting ready for your big moment at the altar. The assistance of your bridesmaids is almost always necessary for getting into your wedding dress, for example. As an aside, we love taking pictures of the moments just after a bride-to-be steps into and pulls up her dress, when her bridesmaids are zipping or lacing up the back. The images of the ladies trying to help their sister, cousin or friend look their best are always tender and touching.
Beyond this type of logistical help, a bride’s bridesmaids are also a source of invaluable emotional support. They know the woman getting married better than perhaps anybody else and know exactly what to do and say when she is feeling stressed and overwhelmed. There is always a special bond among the women in a wedding party, and we always love wedding pictures that highlight it.
In our opinion, that is what makes this shot such a great image. We took the photo of the bride just before stepped out of the luxurious bridal suite at the elegant Salamander Resort in suburban Washington, DC. Everything was ready, she looked great and her father was waiting to escort her down the aisle to meet her groom. Her bridesmaids just wanted to make sure that her dress was set for the walk, so they were making some final adjustments. The image perfectly encapsulates the sort of help that bridesmaids give a bride on her wedding day, but the look on her face is what makes this photograph special. She is smiling, without looking at anyone in particular and almost to herself, because she knows she is lucky to have people in her life who care enough about her to make sure her wedding day is perfect.
