We love when fiancés find ways to make their marriage celebration fun — as the couple in this Maryland wedding did. DC wedding photographers often find that the quirky elements are what make each marital event special. The rest of a wedding day tends to march to a fairly predictable beat. The bride and groom get ready. Perhaps the spouses-to-be have a first look. The wedding party and guests congregate at a wedding venue in the Washington, DC, area. After the newlyweds exchange their vows, their Washington, DC, wedding photographer takes family formals pictures and couples portraits. The wedding reconvenes at a local hotel, restaurant or club for the reception. The wedding guests and the newly-married spouses celebrate the nuptials by dancing late into the night.
Any Washington, DC, wedding photographer can tell you how important each of those moments are. But DC wedding photographers can also tell you that they are not usually what newlyweds remember years later. Instead, they reminisce about how the groom sang an off-key version of the bride’s favorite song during the reception. Or how the ring bearer interrupted their Maryland wedding ceremony to go hug the maid of honor. Or how the best man managed to spilt his pants on the dance floor during the reception. The taste of the chicken served at dinner fades from your memory by the next day. But the things that made you laugh or brought a tear to your eye stay with you forever.
Many of these memorable moments are unplanned, of course. Wedding photographers in Washington, DC, know that there is no substitute for real, unscripted emotions. No posed photograph can ever look as good as an image of a genuine moment. That said, there are little things that spouses-to-be can do to help things along. Adding the aforementioned quirky elements to their wedding planning creates a fun environment that encourages guests to let loose. Which is what the bride and groom from this Maryland wedding did.
Because their Maryland wedding took place in an outdoor location, they assumed that their guests needed help finding the facilities. To address that, they had their wedding planner create an arrow-shaped sign that pointed the way to the bathroom. From the perspective of Washington, DC, wedding photographer, though, the best touch was having their ring bearer hold the sign. To a DMV wedding photographer, the combination of a cute kid holding a mildly inappropriate prop made a great scene. The kind of scene that made nearly every guest at that Maryland wedding laugh. The kind of scene that neither they nor the newlyweds would ever forget.
It also proved to be the kind of scene that led to some award-winning DC wedding photography. We submitted this particular image to the Masters of German Wedding Photography contest and were fortunate enough to win. It was a huge honor for a Washington, DC, wedding photographer to receive such a prestigious international award. Our top priority as wedding photographers in Washington, DC, will always be to deliver the best possible images to our brides and grooms, of course. But having the quality of our photographs recognized by our peers in the wedding photography industry means the world to us.
