Wanna know a secret benefit of booking us to photograph your destination wedding? Whenever we are outside of the Washington DC metro area, we can use our Mavic DJI Pro drone to take aerial photos of you. And take it from two experienced wedding professionals -- drone wedding photography is really something special!
Before we talk about how our drone can make your wedding photos magical, though, let us quickly run through some of the other benefits of hiring us for your destination marriage celebrations. Because with us, you get more than just two experienced professional wedding photographers!
You also get two people who are well suited to photographing marriage celebrations anywhere on the globe. You will have hired photographers who have spent much of their adult lives living and working overseas. We speak multiple languages and are familiar with a variety of different cultural and religious traditions. We are comfortable stepping into any environment in any part of the world and giving you gorgeous pictures that tell the story of your wedding day in a compelling way. Booking us lets you rest easy knowing that you have photographers who will document your international nuptials the right way.
Coming back to the original topic, let’s answer a question that might be on your mind. Namely, why would a destination marriage celebration open up the possibility of wedding drone photography? If you are a longtime resident of the Washington DC metro area, then the answer probably will not surprise you.
For security reasons, wedding photographers cannot fly a drone within 15 miles of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Unfortunately, that means no drone photos at any of the best downtown DC wedding venues! Though similar restrictions exist in and around other cities in the US and around the world, most are not as strict. For that reason, the possibilities for doing drone wedding photography open up considerably if you plan your nuptials in a place other than Washington.
Is the chance to get drone pictures of your wedding worth scheduling your nuptials abroad for? Probably not if it is the only reason you would consider a destination wedding. But if you want pictures of your marriage celebrations that are unlike any other? Then finding a way to make drone wedding photos a possibility is a great idea!
Why do we say that? Because one thing we have learned since we started incorporating drone wedding shots into our repertoire is that the world looks very different from above. Viewing the world in that way opens up new perspectives and angles that do not exist at ground level. And that means images that you could never get from more conventional approaches. More specifically, drone wedding pictures can capture two parts of your wedding day in fresh and creative ways.
The first is your ceremony and/or reception. (Assuming that one or both are outside, of course!) From the air, we can often bring more of the things that happen during those parts of your wedding day into each frame. For example, we can use a drone to show you the entire scene that plays out as you exit your wedding ceremony. A picture from ground level can only give you the reactions of you, the people in the aisle and the guests in the back row. Using a camera positioned above allows all of your invitees to appear in the shot as you make your way back down the aisle.
Drone wedding shots also greatly increase the creative possibilities for your couples portraits. Many spots that appear unsuitable at ground level turn into something special when viewed from above. For example, the cool patterns cut into a field are not normally visible from ground level. As soon as you see the world from the air, though, they suddenly emerge. Distracting background elements can also magically disappear. Cars, road signs or odd-looking buildings often vanish from the frame when the ground becomes the background.
That is exactly what happened when we elevated our drone over the two lovely brides featured in this picture. The setting for their wedding — Ringhotel Forellenof in Walsrode, Germany — was absolutely beautiful. It was a perfect rural setting for their intimate, outdoor marriage celebrations.
The venue was, unfortunately, under construction at the time of their nuptials. Though the work did not interfere with their ceremony, the equipment did make shots of them posing near the hotel’s lovely pond challenging. A lot of it was sitting near the water’s edge and would therefore appear in any shot we took of the brides posing by the pond.
Until, that is, we had them lie down on a blanket on a small peninsula that jutted out into the water and flew our drone over them. From above, we could see nothing but the green grass, the surrounding reeds, the calm water and, of course, the two brides. The result was a clean, clutter-free and beautiful shot of the newlyweds. That was only possible thanks to aerial wedding photography!
