Pete met Somu under the most unusual circumstances. Thanks to a Lufthansa strike in March, Pete and Somu were rebooked on the same Swiss Air flight from Germany to DC. But that was only the beginning of what turned out to be an epic adventure getting home! When they were just about at IAD, they got rerouted to JFK because all of DC’s airports shut down for a few hours (another story for another day). With no more flights from NYC to DC, Pete ended up renting a car late at night. Seeing the plight of the other three travelers who couldn’t get a rental at that hour, he invited them to join him on the drive home.
On the way down to DC, Pete passed the time by chatting with the guy in the passenger seat and learned that they had a lot in common. Most importantly, he learned that Somu, his new traveling companion, had a beautiful fiancée named Disha and that the two of them were planning a wedding in India this summer. And that they were looking to do their engagement photos in the city in which they met and fell in love — DC.
Fast-forward a couple of weeks, and we’re meeting Disha and Somu at the Enid A. Haupt Garden behind the Smithsonian Castle for their engagement shoot. The setting was as beautiful as it always is, but what really stood out to us was the tender and easy way these two had with each other. Everything about them felt so free and natural that we pretty much just stopped posing them and did a more documentary-style engagement session!
Once we finished up their shoot at the National Gallery of Art — the second stop on their mini photo tour of the Mall, we headed to Chinatown for a delicious lunch at Rasika. And what started under absolutely terrible circumstances ended with smiles and laughter!
